About eVGeMdb

Neurodegenerative disorders are incurable conditions characterized by the progressive loss of neurons and impairment of the nervous system. Genetic linkage and genome- wide association studies have uncovered many neurodegenerative disease-causing mutations (disease genes), but we still lack an effective therapy.

With advanced genetic tools, it has become feasible to identify many secondary genes that modify the function of the disease genes to alter disease onset, progression, and severity. These modifier genes provide important mechanistic insights and excellent therapeutic opportunities. Therefore, we established eVGeMdb (experimentally Validated Genetic Modifier database), a comprehensive database of neurodegenerative disease gene-specific modifiers, validated across experimental model systems.

eVGeMdb catalogs over 17,000 genetic modifiers for key neurodegenerative disorders, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS), Alzheimer's disease(AD), Parkinson's disease(PD), Huntington’s disease(HD), and Ataxia. eVGeMdb enable users to explore gene-disease associations, cross-disease modifiers, modifier-specific pathways, and protein-protein interaction networks to gain deep insights into disease mechanisms and discover novel therapeutic targets.
